Has the Lord knocked at your door lately? Did He knock years ago maybe? I’m not talking about the false religions with suit and tie or the man holding the doomsday sign who claims to know the way. I mean the Lord himself. Have you heard that still small voice saying, “come to me. I am the way”, or “I will give you rest?”
Have you turned away and ignored that knock cause it didn’t fit into your lifestyle? Or your friends wouldn’t approve?
For many people that’s a good reason to have an abortion. After all, we wouldn’t want to be “punished with a baby” just for having a little fun. It doesn’t fit into our lifestyle. Some think that’s a good reason to divorce, abuse their partner, or live with a partner outside of a holy covenant marriage. It doesn’t fit into our lifestyle. What about slander? Deception to get your way? What about ignoring the needs of your family? What about murder? Mercy Killing? Honor Killing? And the list goes on for various reasons.
Can you rest well at night without strong drink or pills? There isn’t much time left. The doors are closing. Soon the door will be closed forever. Time will run out for us. There won’t be another knock or another invitation after we die. If we were to look back at our lives on our death bed, or worst, just before we die because of an incident, would we be satisfied that we’ve done enough or have been good enough to enter into God’s rest?
The confusing part is that all it would take to be free from the coming wrath is repent, turn, and receive. How hard is that? Your friends, the money, the lifestyle, the problem causing you to sin, won’t be there for you after you die. God will. His judgement will be there. And He does promise a judgement.
5 Biblical tips to be free from the coming wrath:
1. Repent. Even if you think you’re a good person and don’t see any reason to repent, know that your version of good is not the same as God’s version of good. God, in his purity and perfectness sees our actions outside of worldly thinking.
Isaiah 64:6 For we have all become like one who is unclean [ceremonially, like a leper], and all our righteousness (our best deeds of rightness and justice) is like filthy rags or a polluted garment; we all fade like a leaf, and our iniquities, like the wind, take us away [far from God's favor, hurrying us toward destruction].
2. Turn. If you continue in your sins, you don’t know the meaning of repentance. Every time you sin, you must turn to God who is the author and finisher of your faith.
Romans 12:9 [Let your] love be sincere (a real thing); hate what is evil [loathe all ungodliness, turn in horror from wickedness], but hold fast to that which is good.
1 Peter 3:11 Let him turn away from wickedness and shun it, and let him do right. Let him search for peace (harmony; undisturbedness from fears, agitating passions, and moral conflicts) and seek it eagerly. [Do not merely desire peaceful relations with God, with your fellowmen, and with yourself, but pursue, go after them!]
Hebrews 12:2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
3. Receive salvation from Christ. That salvation is free to all who believe. If God has spoken to you in one way or another, you have been chosen. If you’re reading this blog post today, you have been chosen. God, in his infinite wisdom and grace has given us a way out of sin and a gift that should not be taken lightly.
Romans 2:4 Do you have contempt for God, who is very kind to you, puts up with you, and deals patiently with you? Don’t you realize that it is God’s kindness that is trying to lead you to him and change the way you think and act?
2 Timothy 2:10 For that reason, I endure everything for the sake of those who have been chosen so that they, too, may receive salvation from Christ Jesus with glory that lasts forever.
4. Share the good news with those you love. Don’t keep salvation to yourself. You know what eternity without salvation will be like–don’t let those you love fail. There might not be another way for them. If you have an opportunity to help a local missionary or minister, help them–in this way you have helped spread the good news.
Philippians 1:7 You have a special place in my heart. So it’s right for me to think this way about all of you. All of you are my partners. Together we share God’s favor, whether I’m in prison or defending and confirming the truth of the Good News.
5. Wait and continue to be loyal to your calling. Don’t give up. There is a time and a season for everything.
Isaiah 40:31 The strength of those who wait with hope in the Lord will be renewed. They will soar on wings like eagles. They will run and won’t become weary. They will walk and won’t grow tired.
