Free from Feeling Sick and Tired

Most of the world’s ills come as a result of sin. Sick and tired is an expression that many of us use when we have reached the edge. We know this idiom as, ‘fed up’. The first known use of these words spoken together was in 1775. This expression became mainstream in our vocabulary. But can feeling sick and tired be a stronghold in our lives, too? Possibly.

The Sick Awaiting the Passage of Jesus

Sick Awaiting Jesus

If we don’t trust God or if we don’t move forward to change what’s irritating us, we are giving in to defeat. When we give in to defeat we allow any number of strongholds in our lives. Being sick is not God’s best for us. Neither is being tired. However, feeling sick and tired moves us into the position of noticing there is a problem that needs changing. Not moving forward to encourage the change can mean we are enabling the problem.

Deliberately allowing problem areas in our lives can produce sin and eventual death. Bitterness, frustration, unforgiveness, gossip, offense, hate, and any number of strongholds or sinful areas that can turn into strongholds will take over.  We must have patience to deal with things that may take time to change. Or in the least move ahead in love to change the things we can change–things we are sick and tired of dealing with.

Change doesn’t always come easily or quickly since change encompasses a number of facets in our lives  including financial, emotional, physical, and spiritual. Moving ahead in agreement with the Word of God can improve our outlook and put an end to being ‘fed-up’.

5 Biblical tips to overcoming feeling sick and tired:

1. Have patience. If we know that positive change will come, patience to deal with the time involved will bring us peace.

Galatians 6:9 And let us not lose heart and grow weary and faint in acting nobly and doing right, for in due time and at the appointed season we shall reap, if we do not loosen and relax our courage and faint.

James 1:12 Blessed (happy, to be envied) is the man who is patient under trial and stands up under temptation, for when he has stood the test and been approved, he will receive [the victor's] crown of life which God has promised to those who love Him.

2. Gain wisdom to know what change is needed before you give a problem over to defeat.

Proverbs 19:2 Desire without knowledge is not good, and to be overhasty is to sin and miss the mark.

Isaiah 30:15 This is what the Almighty Lord, the Holy One of Israel, says: You can be saved by returning to me. You can have rest. You can be strong by being quiet and by trusting me. But you don’t want that.

3. Move forward in whatever capacity you can to effect the change that may be needed.

Joshua 1:9 Have not I commanded you? Be strong, vigorous, and very courageous. Be not afraid, neither be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.

Philippians 4:13 I can do everything through Christ who strengthens me.

4. Rest in, and trust in, Jesus Christ.

Matthew 11:28-30 Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.”

5. Make sure your desires line up with God’s will which you can find in the Word of God.

James 1:15 Then desire when it has conceived gives birth to sin, and sin when it is fully grown brings forth death.

Romans 12:2 Do not be conformed to this world (this age), [fashioned after and adapted to its external, superficial customs], but be transformed (changed) by the [entire] renewal of your mind [by its new ideals and its new attitude], so that you may prove [for yourselves] what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God, even the thing which is good and acceptable and perfect [in His sight for you].
