Free from the Stronghold of Abandonment
Abandonment by the world or someone in the world is possible and even likely. But never by the Lord. We abandon or feel abandoned when we put a strong emphasis on ourselves and what we think we should have or should have had. When we are abandoned, we feel a loss of love, security, and even strength. Loneliness and fear can take over.
When we abandon we may be motivated by any number of self-preserving or even selfish reasons. We lose or leave what or who has taken the place of God in our lives. We abandon lifestyles, people, thought patterns, and more.
After we receive Christ we receive an assurance that we are not alone, we will never be left alone, and no matter where we go, the Lord will always be with us. The Lord is concerned with every area of our life. Abandonment takes a back seat when we know God is with us and on our side.
5 Biblical tips to overcome abandonment:
1. Put your hope and trust in God. He will never leave you nor forsake you.
Hebrews 13:5-6 Let your character or moral disposition be free from love of money [including greed, avarice, lust, and craving for earthly possessions] and be satisfied with your present [circumstances and with what you have]; for He [God] Himself has said, I will not in any way fail you nor give you up nor leave you without support. [I will] not, [I will] not, [I will] not in any degree leave you helpless nor forsake nor let [you] down (relax My hold on you)! [Assuredly not!] 6So we take comfort and are encouraged and confidently and boldly say, The Lord is my Helper; I will not be seized with alarm [I will not fear or dread or be terrified]. What can man do to me?
2. Allow the Lord to adopt you. Jesus has already paid the price for your adoption.
Psalm 27:10 Although my father and my mother have forsaken me, yet the Lord will take me up [adopt me as His child].
Ephesians 1:5 For He foreordained us (destined us, planned in love for us) to be adopted (revealed) as His own children through Jesus Christ, in accordance with the purpose of His will [ because it pleased Him and was His kind intent]–
Romans 6:23 For the wages which sin pays is death, but the [bountiful] free gift of God is eternal life through (in union with) Jesus Christ our Lord.
3. Be confident in the Lord. Your strength comes from Him.
Joshua 1:9 Have not I commanded you? Be strong, vigorous, and very courageous. Be not afraid, neither be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.
Hebrews 10:35 Do not, therefore, fling away your fearless confidence, for it carries a great and glorious compensation of reward.
4. Trust in his strength during your weakest moments. The times when you feel abandoned are the times when Christ is closer than you think.
Psalm 34:18 The Lord is close to those who are of a broken heart and saves such as are crushed with sorrow for sin and are humbly and thoroughly penitent.
Ephesians 6:10 In conclusion, be strong in the Lord [be empowered through your union with Him]; draw your strength from Him [that strength which His boundless might provides].
5. Gain comfort in knowing that you are precious to God.
Psalm 139:13 For You did form my inward parts; You did knit me together in my mother’s womb.
Luke 12:5-7 Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? And [yet] not one of them is forgotten or uncared for in the presence of God. 7But [even] the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not be struck with fear or seized with alarm; you are of greater worth than many [flocks] of sparrows.
