Free from the Stronghold of Death
When we received Christ, death no longer had a stronghold in our lives. The sacrifice of his suffering and death brought us redemption and life.
The resurrection of Christ assures us that we, too, will be brought back to life. This renewed life after death will be in the form of a glorified body, incorruptible, without spot or wrinkle. That’s good news for those of us who are forever fighting those age spots and cute little crevices on our faces. ♥
Seriously, when Christ died for us, he took authority over death. Death was swallowed up in Victory. So, Death, where is your sting? If we live, we live to the Lord, and if we die, we die to the Lord. So then, whether we live or whether we die, we are the Lord’s and have everlasting life.
The perishable body we now have will be changed to an immortal, imperishable body. There will no longer be tears, sorrow, or pain. What a great God we serve!
5 Biblical tips to overcoming a stronghold of death:
1. Receive Christ if you haven’t already. A commitment to Christ will assure you of eternal life and the gift of the Holy Spirit.
John 1:12 To as many as did receive and welcome Him, He gave the authority (power, privilege, right) to become the children of God, that is, to those who believe in (adhere to, trust in, and rely on) His name–
Acts 2:38 Peter replied, “Each of you must repent of your sins and turn to God, and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. Then you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
2 Corinthians 5:15 He died for everyone so that those who receive his new life will no longer live for themselves. Instead, they will live for Christ, who died and was raised for them.
2. If you’ve received Christ don’t allow fear of death to slow you down or take away your hope and joy. Have no doubt. Nothing can separate you from the love of God in Christ Jesus.
Revelation 21:4 God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; and death shall be no more, neither shall there be anguish (sorrow and mourning) nor grief nor pain any more, for the old conditions and the former order of things have passed away.
3. Live to glorify God. When we are in Christ old [sinful] things have passed away and all things become new.
Colossians 2:6 As you have therefore received Christ, [even] Jesus the Lord, [so] walk (regulate your lives and conduct yourselves) in union with and conformity to Him.
Romans 8:13 For if you live according to [the dictates of] the flesh, you will surely die. But if through the power of the [Holy] Spirit you are [habitually] putting to death (making extinct, deadening) the [evil] deeds prompted by the body, you shall [really and genuinely] live forever.
4. Be confident in the Lord and in the Holy Spirit that now dwells within you.
Philippians 1:6 And I am convinced and sure of this very thing, that He Who began a good work in you will continue until the day of Jesus Christ [right up to the time of His return], developing [that good work] and perfecting and bringing it to full completion in you.
Romans 8:1 THEREFORE, [there is] now no condemnation (no adjudging guilty of wrong) for those who are in Christ Jesus, who live [and] walk not after the dictates of the flesh, but after the dictates of the Spirit.
5. Trust the Lord. The good news that you’ve received is true, everlasting, and final.
Proverbs 3:5-6 Lean on, trust in, and be confident in the Lord with all your heart and mind and do not rely on your own insight or understanding. 6In all your ways know, recognize, and acknowledge Him, and He will direct and make straight and plain your paths.
Romans 4:24 But [they were written] for our sakes too. [Righteousness, standing acceptable to God] will be granted and credited to us also who believe in (trust in, adhere to, and rely on) God, Who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead,
