Free from the Stronghold of Indecision
We have so many choices today in all areas of our lives that it can be difficult for us to decide. If we make the wrong decision we could end up with years of misery or an empty bank account, depending on what the choice is.
It’s good to have choices. It’s even better to choose correctly. There are choices that lead to death. Those are the choices we want to avoid. However, when we remain on the fence in a stronghold of indecision, we never move forward, and may regret the choice to not choose. This stronghold of indecision can hold us back in life and can by default be the wrong decision.
There are a few things in life that need absolutes. Indecisiveness can ruin our careers, our families, our physical health, or more importantly, our spiritual health. Of course making the wrong choices can prevent us from eventually making the right choice.
How can we free ourselves and be sure that we are never indecisive when it comes to making the right choice?
5 Biblical solutions to conquering indecisiveness:
1. Decide where you would like your life to go. If you are in Christ, follow His will. Get to know his word.
Hebrews 9:15 That is why he is the one who mediates a new covenant between God and people, so that all who are called can receive the eternal inheritance God has promised them. For Christ died to set them free from the penalty of the sins they had committed under that first covenant.
2. Do your research well. Every religion claims to be the right path. There is only one way to salvation.
Acts 4:12 No one else can save us. Indeed, we can be saved only by the power of the one named Jesus and not by any other person.”
John 14:6 Jesus answered him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one goes to the Father except through me.
3. Once you make a decision don’t turn back. When you choose Christ, your decisions must revolve around this choice.
2 Peter 1:4-7 Through his glory and integrity he has given us his promises that are of the highest value. Through these promises you will share in the divine nature because you have escaped the corruption that sinful desires cause in the world. 5Because of this, make every effort to add integrity to your faith; and to integrity add knowledge; 6to knowledge add self-control; to self-control add endurance; to endurance add godliness; 7to godliness add Christian affection; and to Christian affection add love.
4. Follow the right path even when things seem tough. Remember the Word of God is the will of God. Outside his word there is only trouble–maybe not immediately but it will come.
Jeremiah 17:5 Thus says the Lord: Cursed [with great evil] is the strong man who trusts in and relies on frail man, making weak [human] flesh his arm, and whose mind and heart turn aside from the Lord.
5. Never let anyone outside of Christ determine your decision.
Psalm 1:1-2 BLESSED (HAPPY, fortunate, prosperous, and enviable) is the man who walks and lives not in the counsel of the ungodly [following their advice, their plans and purposes], nor stands [submissive and inactive] in the path where sinners walk, nor sits down [to relax and rest] where the scornful [and the mockers] gather. 2But his delight and desire are in the law of the Lord, and on His law (the precepts, the instructions, the teachings of God) he habitually meditates (ponders and studies) by day and by night.
