Free from the Stronghold of Spiritual Blindness
No true believer should be spiritually blind to the cause and effect of going against God’s will. Biblical history and subsequent records have shown us that there are consequences to sin. Even in the natural we see the results of cause and effect played out in our lives and in the lives of others.
But what of spiritual blindness that clouds our judgement and keeps us putting out fires instead of enjoying the fullness of a life separated to the Lord?
2 Corinthians 4:4 For the god of this world has blinded the unbelievers’ minds [that they should not discern the truth], preventing them from seeing the illuminating light of the Gospel of the glory of Christ (the Messiah), Who is the Image and Likeness of God.
How do we know if we have spiritual blindness? We are called to warn others of the impending judgment and share the good news of salvation through Jesus Christ. But what can we do to overcome any spiritual blindness in our own lives?
The word has been interpreted in so many ways. Misunderstanding the word and following blind guides can cause a stronghold of spiritual blindness to set in. One thing you can be sure: Christ existed with God the Father before the world began. Before the world was, Christ was.
Colossians 1:15-17 Christ is the visible image of the invisible God. He existed before anything was created and is supreme over all creation,16 for through him God created everything in the heavenly realms and on earth. He made the things we can see and the things we can’t see— such as thrones, Everything was created through him and for him. 17 He existed before anything else, and he holds all creation together.
5 Biblical tips to overcoming spiritual blindness:
1. If you cannot discern spiritual things, cry out to God. Ask God to release you from this spiritual blindness and guide you in all truth.
2 Corinthians 4:3-4 And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing. 4 In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.
2. Repent of any self-righteousness. God does not want anyone to be left out. The Jews accepted and recognized God from the beginning. But the full truth was not revealed until the Messiah came.
John 9:39 Then Jesus said, I came into this world for judgment [as a Separator, in order that there may be separation between those who believe on Me and those who reject Me], to make the sightless see and to make those who see become blind.
Romans 11:25 Lest you be self-opinionated (wise in your own conceits), I do not want you to miss this hidden truth and mystery, brethren: a hardening (insensibility) has [temporarily] befallen a part of Israel [to last] until the full number of the ingathering of the Gentiles has come in,
3. Submit to God, turn from your corrupt nature, and place yourself under God’s authority.
Romans 8:6-8 The corrupt nature’s attitude leads to death. But the spiritual nature’s attitude leads to life and peace. 7This is so because the corrupt nature has a hostile attitude toward God. It refuses to place itself under the authority of God’s standards because it can’t. 8Those who are under the control of the corrupt nature can’t please God.
4. Call on the name of the Lord. Do not deny Him or His oneness with the Father and Holy Spirit.
It’s becoming more difficult for true Christians to stand up for Christ Jesus. Many religions [even calling themselves Christians] deny the truth. The three agree and have always been together as one. Spiritual blindness can take over when we deny Christ. Jesus [the Word that became flesh--John 1:14] said that if you deny me I will deny you.
Acts 4:12 And there is salvation in and through no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by and in which we must be saved.
Philippians 2:10 That in (at) the name of Jesus every knee should (must) bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
Acts 2:21 And it shall be that whoever shall call upon the name of the Lord [ invoking, adoring, and worshiping the Lord--Christ] shall be saved.
5. There is no better way to end spiritual blindness in your life than to continue to seek out, cry out, and hunger after the Word. The closer you draw to God, the closer He will draw to you.
Ephesians 2:18 For it is through Him that we both [whether far off or near] now have an introduction (access) by one [Holy] Spirit to the Father [so that we are able to approach Him].
Colossians 2:10 And you are in Him, made full and having come to fullness of life [in Christ you too are filled with the Godhead--Father, Son and Holy Spirit--and reach full spiritual stature]. And He is the Head of all rule and authority [of every angelic principality and power].
