Free from the Stronghold of Vileness

To human senses vileness is repulsive and disgusting. But to God it is debased, depraved, and despicable. God is so pure that abominations to Him [as stated in His Word] are vile. The Bible repeatedly talks about love, salvation and the vilest of sins simultaneously.

Proverbs 14:22 Don’t those who stray plan what is evil, while those who are merciful and faithful plan what is good?

God pleads with his creation to understand the things that are vile to him, and turn. There is a way. His love for us is incomprehensibly great. He has prepared a path for us through his word.  In the simplest terms he tells us what to do in order to keep walking on this straight but narrow path. Just read and listen.

Instead, and out of rebellion, worldly news negates God and his Word, and calls vile things good, and good things hateful. It will be a sad ending for those who won’t submit to God’s Word. Sad, because along with instructions to love him, and others, he gave us all the love we can ever need or desire.

In our foolish greed, rebellion, lust, and idolatry we turn away from God (who is everlasting) and his will, in order to seek fame, fortune, or satisfaction in worldly things that will fade and pass away. Jesus pleads with us to “Take My yoke upon you and learn of Me, for I am gentle (meek) and humble (lowly) in heart, and you will find rest (relief and ease and refreshment and recreation and blessed quiet) for your souls.” Matthew 11:29

Will you turn away? Will you carry on what is vile even after you discover the vileness of it?

5 Biblical tips to overcome vileness:

1. Get to know God’s word. If you claim Christ but continue in sin, you don’t know Christ. He pleads with us to know him. We can know him through his word.

1 Corinthians 6:8-10 Don’t you know that wicked people won’t inherit the kingdom of God? Stop deceiving yourselves! People who continue to commit sexual sins, who worship false gods, those who commit adultery, homosexuals, 10or thieves, those who are greedy or drunk, who use abusive language, or who rob people will not inherit the kingdom of God.

2. Turn from wickedness. Don’t you know that God sees everything? Everything! He knows your deepest thoughts and sees every action and reaction.

Proverbs 15:3 The eyes of the Lord are everywhere. They watch evil people and good people.

Psalm 139:1-18 O LORD, you have searched me [thoroughly] and have known me. 2You know my downsitting and my uprising; You understand my thought afar off. 3You sift and search out my path and my lying down, and You are acquainted with all my ways. 4For there is not a word in my tongue [still unuttered], but, behold, O Lord, You know it altogether. 5You have beset me and shut me in–behind and before, and You have laid Your hand upon me. 6Your [infinite] knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high above me, I cannot reach it. 7Where could I go from Your Spirit? Or where could I flee from Your presence?  8If I ascend up into heaven, You are there; if I make my bed in Sheol (the place of the dead), behold, You are there. READ MORE HERE

3. Be a good example. Not a detriment to others by your actions. Simpleminded people copy bad behavior.

Romans 16:18 For such persons do not serve our Lord Christ but their own appetites and base desires, and by ingratiating and flattering speech, they beguile the hearts of the unsuspecting and simpleminded [people].

Proverbs 28:10 Whoever leads decent people into evil will fall into his own pit, but innocent people will inherit good things.

4. Beware of false teachers. They will lead you on the wrong path. They may sound good for awhile and even make you promises of the things you lust for. They will water down the word to get your attention. The end of the path they’re leading you on is hell.

2 Peter 2:1-4 …there will be false teachers among yourselves, who will subtly and stealthily introduce heretical doctrines (destructive heresies), even denying and disowning the Master Who bought them, bringing upon themselves swift destruction. 2And many will follow their immoral ways and lascivious doings; because of them the true Way will be maligned and defamed. 3And in their covetousness (lust, greed) they will exploit you with false (cunning) arguments. From of old the sentence [of condemnation] for them has not been idle; their destruction (eternal misery) has not been asleep. 4For God did not [even] spare angels that sinned, but cast them into hell, delivering them to be kept there in pits of gloom till the judgment and their doom.

5. Never deny Christ or His Word. Jesus is one with his word. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever.

John 1:1 In the beginning the Word already existed. The Word was with God, and the Word was God.

John 1:14 The Word became human and lived among us. We saw his glory. It was the glory that the Father shares with his only Son, a glory full of kindness and truth.

Hebrews 13:8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.
