Lust thrives on its victims. It steals multi-billions of dollars from our lives every year. No one is spared. It kills its conduits. It seeks our children. It perverts God’s gift of sexual intimacy any way it can to lure its victims into its clutches.
Why would anyone give into its demands? Why? Because it entices. It seduces, it lies, and it spares no expense to attract its victims.
Lust is so alluring that advertisers have recognized the value of its message–sex sells. [See Free from the Stronghold of Obesity.] The only way to fight this demonic stronghold is with the Holy Spirit actively living inside us. The only way for this to happen is through true repentance, the forgiveness provided to us by the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, and by following Him.
There is no other way. This stronghold uses God’s gifts against us. It knows our thoughts, our desires, and our weaknesses. A lust for money feeds this venue in a symbiotic relationship — this stronghold thrives even among God’s people. It elicits the stronghold of addiction to maintain its grip.
1. Keep your thoughts pure. When you give in to lustful thoughts you are giving into lust.
Matthew 5:27-28 “You have heard that it was said, ‘Never commit adultery.’ 28But I can guarantee that whoever looks at a woman and desires her has already committed adultery in his heart.
2. Treat others like close family. How would you feel if someone lusted after your father/sister/mother/brother?
1 Timothy 5:1-2 DO NOT sharply censure or rebuke an older man, but entreat and plead with him as [you would with] a father. Treat younger men like brothers; 2[Treat] older women like mothers [and] younger women like sisters, in all purity.
3. Enjoy your own spouse. God created one man for one woman and v/v and he commands that a man LOVE his wife and a woman SUBMIT to her [loving - non abusive] husband.
Proverbs 18:22 Whoever finds a wife finds something good and has obtained favor from the Lord.
Hebrews 13:4 Let marriage be held in honor (esteemed worthy, precious, of great price, and especially dear) in all things. And thus let the marriage bed be undefiled (kept undishonored); for God will judge and punish the unchaste [all guilty of sexual vice] and adulterous.
4. Woman should dress modestly. We can be attractive without advertising sex.
1 Timothy 2:9 Also [I desire] that women should adorn themselves modestly and appropriately and sensibly in seemly apparel, not with [elaborate] hair arrangement or gold or pearls or expensive clothing,
5. Keep friends who resist temptations and follow God’s will.
1 Corinthians 5:11 Now, what I meant was that you should not associate with people who call themselves brothers or sisters in the Christian faith but live in sexual sin, are greedy, worship false gods, use abusive language, get drunk, or are dishonest. Don’t eat with such people.
6. Draw close to God. This is the most important step in smashing this stronghold. The closer we are to God, the further we move from sin.
James 1:14 But every person is tempted when he is drawn away, enticed and baited by his own evil desire (lust, passions).
James 4:8 Come close to God, and he will come close to you. Clean up your lives, you sinners, and clear your minds, you doubters.
