Free from the Stronghold of Oppression

Unlike depression, which is a stronghold that sets root inside of us, oppression is a stronghold that is forced on us from the outside. When we take this stronghold inside it can invite depression and many other demons into our life.

It is next to impossible to avoid this stronghold. But it is possible to overcome it and free ourselves from it. We must refuse to allow it to set up a dominion in our lives.

Other demons can oppress alone. But this demon needs company. It is a granddaddy of many. In order for its stronghold to last, it must grow. Oppression is bold. It will even cross generations, societies, or boundaries in order to take hold. It wants its hold to be so strong that its victims are paralyzed with fear and are resolved to accept their fate — its dominance in their lives.

The Hitler regime was an oppressive stronghold. The oppression of Hitler brought legions that came through one man. Today, another oppressive stronghold, is trying to set itself up over us by denying the devastation the Hitler regime caused on God’s people.  We can’t deny what we know. This stronghold needs to use other strongholds in order to win its agenda. Be on the alert.

Biblical tips to overcome the stronghold of oppression:

1. Be alert and recognize this stronghold. Oppression comes at us from the outside. Other names for this stronghold are tyranny, despotism, or persecution. It can cause hardship, or suffering. It can be brought on by a group, ideology, or person.

1 Peter 5:8 Keep your mind clear, and be alert. Your opponent the devil is prowling around like a roaring lion as he looks for someone to devour.

Ephesians 1:17-18 For I always pray to] the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, that He may grant you a spirit of wisdom and revelation [of insight into mysteries and secrets] in the [deep and intimate] knowledge of Him,    18By having the eyes of your heart flooded with light, so that you can know and understand the hope to which He has called you, and how rich is His glorious inheritance in the saints (His set-apart ones),

2. Know that Jesus gave you authority over oppression.

Luke 10:19-20 I have given you the authority to trample snakes and scorpions and to destroy the enemy’s power. Nothing will hurt you. 20However, don’t be happy that evil spirits obey you. Be happy that your names are written in heaven.”

3. Speak up. Use your authority. If we are to break or defeat any stronghold in our lives we absolutely must have a voice.

Proverbs 18:21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and they who indulge in it shall eat the fruit of it [for death or life].

4. Pray. God answers our prayers. He has promised to answer the prayers of the humble and those who love him. Don’t stop praying against oppression.

Luke 18:1 ALSO [Jesus] told them a parable to the effect that they ought always to pray and not to turn coward (faint, lose heart, and give up).

2 Chronicles 7:14 14However, if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves, pray, search for me, and turn from their evil ways,  then I will hear their prayer from heaven, forgive their sins, and heal their country.
