Free from the Stronghold of Sloth

Sloth [laziness] immobilizes us. It is so tempting to use excuses and put things off. Sloth is creeping into our society fast, and is assisted by debt, lack, poverty, rebellion, control, lies, strife, sickness, obesity, selfishness, and numerous other demonic strongholds. If we don’t learn about, and overcome the stronghold of laziness now, we may be courting a huge disaster for ourselves and our children in the future.

Giving Talents to Help Others May Lead to a Job

It’s so easy to be lazy. We dump all the damage on our leaders and just sit back and wait for things to get better. Why should we move forward when we have no real job? Why should we work when we get all we need from a handout? Can you hear the selfishness involved?

In order to smash this or any stronghold, we first need to recognize it for what it is. How can we overcome what seems to be impossible? Should there never be time to enjoy life? When can we rest? What does God’s Word [the Bible] say about the demonic stronghold of sloth?

Volunteer Work of All Kinds is Available

Biblical tips to overcome laziness:

1. Pay attention to your leaders [counselors].

Proverbs 26:16 A lazy person thinks he is wiser than seven people who give a sensible answer.

2. Find something for your hands to do. There are many volunteer jobs that may someday lead to regular employment. Nevertheless, we receive joy and a feeling of importance in serving and helping others.

Romans 12:10-12 Love each other with genuine affection, and take delight in honoring each other. 11 Never be lazy, but work hard and serve the Lord enthusiastically. 12 Rejoice in our confident hope. Be patient in trouble, and keep on praying.

3. Use your talents or you will lose them. God gave you talent no matter who you are or what your financial or physical situation is today.

Matthew 25:25-27  I was afraid. So I hid your two thousand dollars in the ground. Here’s your money!’ 26“His master responded, ‘You evil and lazy servant! If you knew that I harvest where I haven’t planted and gather where I haven’t scattered, 27then you should have invested my money with the bankers. When I returned, I would have received my money back with interest.

4. Show respect and devotion to God and others.

Romans 12:10-12 Be devoted to each other like a loving family. Excel in showing respect for each other. 11Don’t be lazy in showing your devotion. Use your energy to serve the Lord. 12Be happy in your confidence, be patient in trouble, and pray continually.

5. Don’t wait. Give while you can — when you have the opportunity to help, help immediately. Giving can mean the difference between life and death to someone.

Hebrews 6:10-12 God is fair. He won’t forget what you’ve done or the love you’ve shown for him. You helped his holy people, and you continue to help them. 11We want each of you to prove that you’re working hard so that you will remain confident until the end. 12Then, instead of being lazy, you will imitate those who are receiving the promises through faith and patience.

6. Rest. God rested on the seventh day and requires that we rest as well. There’s a time for rest and a time to work. Balance your time wisely.

Hebrews 4:8-10 If Joshua had given the people rest, God would not have spoken about another day. 9Therefore, a time of rest and worship exists for God’s people. 10Those who entered his place of rest also rested from their work as God did from his.

Ecclesiastes 3:12-13 I realize that there’s nothing better for them to do than to be cheerful and enjoy what is good in their lives. 13It is a gift from God to be able to eat and drink and experience the good that comes from every kind of hard work.
